Forgotten

Celebrate

Route 66 is an important part of Oklahoma's history, heritage and culture. The GHOULI team may not have been around for the glory days of Route 66 but we appreciate the legacy it has left behind. Today, our generation sees many abandoned places, faded signs of once great attractions and the ruins of an era. As we celebrate our history and Oklahoma adventures we invite and encourage anyone with a sense of exploration to get out, hit the road and witness Oklahoma's Route 66 for yourself. Relax and stay off the turnpikes. Take your time and see everything even though it may be nothing. Do not have a plan or deadline. Stop, eat, drink and talk to the locals. Take a lot of photos and create your own special Route 66 Memory.

This page was not created for showcasing ghosts or things that go bump in the night. This page has been created to encourage people to get out and experience a wonderful piece of Oklahoma history and the Nations Mother Road for yourself.

Belvidere Mansion, Claremore Oklahoma– Built in 1907, this Victorian mansion is a must see on your Route 66 adventure. The best part is that it also has some ghostly charm to it.  John Bayless built the mansion for his family. The ornate architecture and meticulous design took many years to complete. Mr. Bayless died around the same time the mansion was completed. Some report that his heart and soul went into the mansion and that is why he continues to reside in his dream home even today. Mrs. Bayless died 13 years later and was successful with raising their six children. The sounds of children playing throughout the house is a common occurrence within the Belvidere Mansion. There are no reports of any children dying in the mansion, some say the energies have been left behind. Mr. Bayless has been witnessed by many, he often appears scattered and disgruntled at times but nobody has reported violent behavior from the ghosts of the Belvidere Mansion. Bristow Oklahoma-

Founded in 1897 as a Trading Post, Bristow Oklahoma is rumored to be packed full of ghostly tales and local Urban Legends. Rumors of the curious haunted locations are even showcased on the Bristow Travel and Tourism Website.  K’s Corner is an infamous legend in the town. The legend originated over a lovers spat some years ago. A woman had just  been in an argument with her lover. She then crossed the street only to be struck by a truck. The woman has been reported to haunt the convenience store that is directly on Rt 66 and Highway 48. When you stop in, ask the folks that work there, some of the stories are fantastic. The Historic Depot in town is not orphaned of ghostly tales. The Depot, like many others across the nation seem to hold the same local yet legendary charm. Many historic Depots have been reported haunted over the years. Perhaps the hustle and bustle of travelers and the mystery of so many unknown faces stopping in, not ever being able to pinpoint who was there and why. Whether or not you believe, the ambience of the past always lingers in old Depots. From UFO’s to Bigfoot, Bristow seems to have it all when it comes to adventures of the unexplained. RT 66 Cemeteries— Out of respect of peoples families that reside in cemeteries all across the state of Oklahoma, we will not post the location of these Rt 66 Haunting legends. Most legends seem to be based off local folklore, like local lore such as Cry Baby Bridges. But, the stories are there and frequent. Rumors of a little boy who was killed by a passing car continues to haunt the mother road today. If you see a small child bloody and distorted walking on the highway, go ahead and stop for him. He may not be there once you pull up, but he was there for a short time. Some people have reported and witnessed far east in Oklahoma of this small child pushing his bicycle alone on the road, while others have seen him just walking alone. Keep an eye out, you may just catch a glimpse of him. Another Rt 66 Cemetery tale takes place about half way through the state of Oklahoma. Phantom hitchhikers are very popular on the old road. There is a rumor of a woman walking the road holding a small child. She has been seen close to a cemetery. People have stopped to offer her help but as they get closer, she just seems to disappear. Leaving the drivers stunned and shocked. No matter where you may be on Route 66 keep an eye out for phantom hitchhikers!
